Privacy, in plain words

Your journal and microphone recordings stay on your device. Delivering sounds, app updates, purchases and support also involves the limited information described below.

Last updated: 20 October 2026. This notice covers the Aelo Android app (app.aelo.mobile), helloaelo.com and Aelo support. Purchase processing applies to builds with store billing enabled.

Contact Aelo

Aelo is a Kelvanore Studio app. Contact support@helloaelo.com for support or privacy requests.

What stays on your device

Journal text, moods, evening observations, recording labels, saved sound moments, recording start and end times, preferences, favorites, listening history, downloads and alarm settings are stored locally. Aelo does not send journal entries, microphone audio or raw health information to us or to an AI service. No Aelo account is required.

The microphone starts only after you select a recording feature and allow microphone access. A recorded night saves short sound moments that pass a local sound threshold; it does not save a continuous whole-night recording or diagnose sleep conditions. Recording stops no later than twelve hours after Start. The separate microphone check creates a temporary sample, with cleanup when you leave or next enter that check. You can revoke microphone permission in Android settings and still use features that do not need it.

Local retention and deletion

Saved sound files have a seven-day retention rule and a 300 MB storage cap. Cleanup runs when another sound is saved or the idle recording archive is opened. Files can therefore remain longer if you do not use the app, or disappear earlier if the storage cap is reached. Stop recording before using the recording deletion controls.

Deleting a sound file does not also erase a separate journal note or every night-history entry. Notes and other local settings remain until you change or remove them or clear Aelo’s app data. To remove a calendar note, clear its text and selected mood, then save. To erase all local Aelo information, stop recording and clear the app’s storage in Android settings. Aelo provides no cloud backup or sync for your journal or recordings and disables Android app backup. We cannot restore deleted local information.

Sounds, website and updates

Cloudflare hosts this website and delivers the app’s catalog, artwork and audio. Requests expose an IP address, requested address, time, response and technical connection information. Content requests can identify which public sound or image is requested, but do not include your private recordings or journal.

Expo delivers compatible app updates. The update client sends a random installation identifier, platform/runtime and update identifiers, including identifiers of recently failed updates, alongside network information. These are used to deliver compatible updates and understand update reliability. They are not your journal or microphone audio.

The website uses no advertising or analytics scripts, sign-up form or non-essential cookies. Fonts are served with the site. Playing a landscape loads an audio file. The website does not request microphone permission.

Purchases and Premium

When billing is enabled, RevenueCat receives a randomly generated app user identifier, app/device technical information and subscription or transaction information from the app and Google Play. This supports access checks, purchase restoration and subscription reporting. A random identifier is pseudonymous information, not a promise of anonymity. Access checks can happen when you open the app, even before a purchase.

Aelo does not supply RevenueCat with your name, email, advertising identifier, journal or sound recordings. Google Play handles checkout using your Google account and payment details; Aelo does not receive your full payment-card number. Google processes store information under its own privacy terms. Removing Aelo or its local data does not cancel a subscription or automatically erase store or RevenueCat records.

Support messages

If you contact us, we receive your reply address, message and anything you choose to include, such as a device model or order reference. Cloudflare Email Routing forwards support mail to our studio Gmail inbox. Google provides that mailbox under its consumer-service privacy terms. Replies may come from the studio Gmail address.

Please do not send private recordings, journal entries, health details, passwords or card details. If these arrive unnecessarily, we remove them when handling the request. We use support correspondence to answer you, resolve problems and handle any related complaint.

Why we process information

Delivering requested content, providing support about your service and managing Premium access are necessary to provide the service or take steps you request before a contract (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). Security, technical delivery logs, update reliability and limited subscription reporting rely on our legitimate interests in running a reliable service and preventing misuse (Article 6(1)(f)). Required transaction records and responses to valid legal requests rely on legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)). Optional local recording and journal features remain under your control; they do not grant permission to upload their contents.

We do not sell personal information, run advertising tracking or use private journal and microphone data for automated profiling. The app has no separate marketing analytics SDK. A local first-play timing value is not sent to an analytics service; the technical and subscription processing above still occurs.

Service providers and international transfers

Cloudflare, Expo and RevenueCat provide delivery, update or billing services for Aelo. Google separately provides Play and our support mailbox. These providers may process information outside Finland and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Applicable safeguards depend on the provider and transfer, including EU adequacy decisions and standard contractual clauses.

Read the providers’ notices for their processing and safeguards: Cloudflare, Expo, RevenueCat and Google. RevenueCat’s data processing terms describe its contractual transfer safeguards. Contact us for information about safeguards applicable to your data. We may disclose information when required by law or necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.

How long information is kept

Local storage follows the rules above. Support correspondence is kept while resolving your request and any related complaint or claim, then removed when no longer needed. Subscription records are retained while needed to validate or restore access, resolve payments and meet applicable legal obligations. Technical logs are retained for delivery, security and troubleshooting according to the relevant provider’s retention settings and policies. Provider-held records and backups may have different deletion schedules. We do not promise that removing the app deletes those records.

Request deletion of Aelo data

Email support@helloaelo.com with the subject “Aelo data deletion request”. Tell us whether your request concerns support correspondence, purchase-related data or technical records. If relevant, include your Google Play order reference or the approximate date of your support request. Do not send your password, payment-card details, private audio or journal text. No Aelo account is required to make a request.

We normally respond within one month and remove identifiable support or service records that we no longer need. If particular records must remain for a legal obligation, a live purchase entitlement or a dispute, we explain which records, why and their applicable retention period in our response. Records held independently by Google Play are subject to Google's own deletion process. Deleting Aelo data does not cancel a Google Play subscription.

To delete data held only on your phone, use the recording or journal deletion controls described above, or stop recording and clear Aelo's storage in Android settings. We cannot erase those files remotely. Saved sound files follow the seven-day cleanup and 300 MB cap described above; journal notes remain until you remove them.

Your rights

Where applicable, you can also request access, correction, restriction or portability of personal information we hold. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw any consent you have given, without affecting earlier lawful processing. Email the address above. We normally respond within one month; if a lawful extension is needed, we explain it. We may need limited information to verify your request or locate the relevant records.

You can complain to a data protection authority, including Finland’s Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman. Aelo's first release is intended for adults aged 18 and over. If a child has sent personal information to support, contact us so we can address it. We do not request children’s information or dates of birth.

Security and changes

Service connections use HTTPS and local private data is held in the app’s device storage. Protect your device and Google account; no system can guarantee absolute security. We update this notice when processing changes, show the revision date and provide additional notice when a change requires it. New optional processing requiring consent will not be enabled merely by changing this notice.
